| Im sure we've all heard the words tinker, fag, nacker, queer etc. But what about buffer? Is it a word of hateful discrimination? Has it become one? Do you use it? Its late so il be back to talk about this later but would love to hear what you all think about it. | |

| I tink like the word Nacker and Thinker they used to have a very positive and real meaning. Workin with animals or metal for a lvin. But people can change the meaning of a word and its true with travellers! Buffer was just a word to name people not traveller but over the yrs its become one of anger too. I dont usually use it and if i do its not in its new bad way but its older one. Only ebcause people abuse it dnt mean we should all abandon it. My nan used to tell me that travellers and buffers both got threw life together with respect so that doent have to change. I call people by there actual name. But only refer to buffer/traveller stuff if asked or need to explan a situation. Iv never tought of it as discrimination but i guess it could be.. ill hav to watch my words
sorry for the spelling i dont have time to tidy this up. Ill be back on later! hahaha

| im sure its how its how we use it. i dont really use it as a curse. i mean "his a buffer" is to name someone in a cultural sense but not in a negitive way. much like he is asian, french and all that. it can be seen as hateful or a way to divide but its only identity. like above i never really though of it this way. iv to think about it some more. | |

thats a tricky one i have to say, if your using a word to define someones cultural aspects then it should be totaly acceptable for others to define us with tinker , or queer,,afterall that is a defining word from the point of view of outsiders,,.. not here to start arguements either lol,,buffer, knacker, tinker, queer, faggot, etc.. are all derogatorie terms and phrases, if we want to be treated better, start with cleaning up our own vocabulary.. peace.................

| Great advice there martin,
It seems its a very difficult course to navigate between discrimination, identity and the ever frustrating “label”. Very true, lets start working on ourselves first... and challenge wayward words as they arise.
