harder bein gay traveller than gay non traveller?

in wot way is it harder bein gay traveller than gay non traveller?

for me its the family thing but not so much these days

also lack of privacy

i think for me it's because being a Traveller your expected to maintain a certain image, that and the fact being gay in the travelling community is something new to the majority of travellers and they still don't know what to make of it and havn't been told yet it's not a mental problem! Being gay today can be tough enough in the "Wider" community but in the Travelling community you also have to deal with out-dated religous and moral Issues (i find).

Being gay in itself regardless of community can bring with it challenges of fear, isolation and lack of information which can feed into a lot of misunderstandings and divisions. Those of us that are both gay and a traveller have to mediate our way through several other types of issues as well. Such as pressures to conform to three ideals. That of being a Traveller, that of the wider community and that of being Gay.

The lack of a definitive understanding of personal placement within the communities, the passive and aggressive acts of discrimination and an almost void of representation and advocacy means it can be very challenging being both Gay and a Traveller – with all the personal, social and intercommunity dynamics in play it can be tough going.

Thankfully though the tides are starting to turn in our favour

everrybody nowin everythin about ya an a real possibility of havin the head bet off ya if people no. ya cant really really REALLY move away frm being a traveler as the largr community dont realy accept people like us very often adn travelrs like to keep there own. its shite but its life!

yeh travellers tend to stick to our own no doubt ever about that. I also deal with quite a few gorjas and if i tend to get em as friends (but always at a arms length away) they most times interested in our way of life thats my experince anyway. From strangers, ive had terrible experience but i dont take it to heart ever

and then theres sometimes when i just cant be bothered with ne of it and just wanna give up
